MANGO MEXICAN CANDY JELL-O SHOT RECIPE

Introduction: This JELL-O SHOT Recipe is a twist on our Mango Mexican Candy Shot recipe. Obviously flavored with mango Jell-O and tequila this shot is everything you’re imagining as you read this. In SLURRED tradition we added a dash of Buffalo Wild Wings Mango Habanero hot sauce and coated rim in both Tajin and Chamoy for the perfect amount of sweet and spicy. No need to wait for the perfect occasion these Jell-O shots are perfect anytime.

What is in a Mexican Candy Jell-O Shot? 

We make Mexican Candy Jell-O Shots with mango or watermelon flavored Jell-O, Tequila, Buffalo Wild Wings Mango Habanero Hot Sauce using Tajin a Chamoy to garnish the rim.

Taste: Spicy, Fruity, Sweet

 

Occasion: Anytime! Perfect for those warmer summer months, especially.

 

Preparation Time: 2 hours

 

Glassware Type: 3oz Plastic Portion Cups and lids (Amazon Link HERE)

 

Tools: None Needed

INGREDIENTS:

  • (3oz) Mango Jell-O (this was hard to find we found it on Amazon HERE but let us know in the comments what stores and areas you’re able to find this flavor!) 

 

  • (1cup) Hot Water

 

  • (1/2 cup) Cold Water

 

  • (1/2 cup) Tequila

 

  • Dash of BWW Mango Habanero Hot Sauce (Amazon Link HERE) 

 

  • Tajin & Chamoy for rim garnish 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Boil 1 cup of hot water 
  2. Once boiled, In a large mixing bowl add you dry Jell-O mix hot water and dash of mango habanero hot sauce Stir until fully dissolved.  
  3. Add both your cold water and Tequila. Stir well.  
  4. Using one of your portion cups begin to fill your Jell-O shot cups leaving enough room to add the lid if desired.  
  5. Chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours or until Jell-O is fully set.  
  6. Garnish the rim by dipping each shot of set Jell-O in a Chamoy bath, then quickly into your tajin to. Rotate to cover the whole rim or cover just half. 
  7. Serve and Enjoy!

Pro Tips: Having a party need something less messy?

 

Once your Jell-O has set add a zig zag of Chamoy to the top of the shot then cover with the lid and store for later. Serve with Mini Tajin Packets (Amazon Link) or even a spicy lollipop to help scoop! 

 

 

There are hundreds of different types of hot sauce out there, so feel free to experiment with different ones. 

 

If you don’t want your drink to be too spicy, simply omit the hot sauce or use less than what is called for in the recipe. You can always add more, but you can’t take it away!

Some people are unfamiliar about the spice, Tajin, so here’s some information for you:

 
 
 
  • Firstly, Tajin is actually a brand name, not just a type of chili lime salt!
  • Further more, It’s a Mexican seasoning that is made with chili peppers, dehydrated lime juice, and salt.
  • Surprisingly Tajin is often used as a condiment for fruits and vegetables, or as a seasoning for meats and poultry.
  • It can also be used to rim cocktails, like in this recipe.  

 

 

Regardless of the use Tajin the name comes from a Mexican hard candy called a Vero Rebanaditas paletas con Chile. 

 

This classic cocktail has been around for a couple of decades and seems to have originated from Mexico and around the border towns, like El Paso, Texas. Pair it with a Mexican beer for a fun spicy treat!
